Voice-Data-Video (VDV) and Code Practice Test

The primary function of a VoIP gateway is to connect a VoIP network to the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). This enables voice communications between internet protocol networks and traditional telephone networks. By doing so, a VoIP gateway allows users to make calls from VoIP-enabled devices to standard PSTN phones and vice versa, facilitating seamless communication across different types of systems.

This function is essential for integrating modern VoIP services with existing telephony infrastructure, enabling businesses and individuals to leverage the benefits of VoIP—such as cost savings and flexibility—while still being able to communicate with those who use conventional telephony systems. Hence, the gateway serves as a crucial bridge between these two technologies, making it indispensable in environments where both systems coexist.
